Many AI applications run on large data centers far outside the city or even abroad. This raises questions about energy consumption, privacy and sovereignty. Local AI offers an alternative: small, energy-efficient AI models that run close to the city, on local infrastructure, with local data. This is not only about technology. It is about digital sovereignty, public control and the question of how cities can deploy AI without becoming dependent on Big Tech.
During the outdoor sessions we explore what that means in practice.
In this session we look at local AI from an energy perspective. How much energy can we save with local AI, and when is it, from an energy perspective, actually wise not to go local? And how do data centers and energy infrastructure relate to each other?
