AI as an urban planning layer
During 5 parallel workshops, we explore how AI is becoming the newest layer in the city. You can design with and within that layer, just like with all other layers. The question is how we want to do that. Big tech AI models governing the city are a real risk, but it doesn't have to be that way. Read more →
The European answer to big tech can also be local tech: small, powerful solutions that work well together because they are interoperable. Solutions built on European values that fit the local context and reinforce, rather than replace, the genius loci of a city.
On 23 September 2026, professionals from across Europe will gather in to design the city's AI layer together. Not as an abstract task, but as concrete design choices: what do we allow AI to do and not do in the city?
In the workshops, each based on backcasting from 2036, participants work towards a joint manifesto for local, autonomous AI. As a participant, you choose one workshop in advance and stay there for the entire day. The group size is 15-20 people per workshop.
In the evening, we are organising the ‘AI in the City’ Walking Dinner (only available on invitation).
