Three pitches on specific AI applications and challenges.

Local: AI and Young People (Kees van Dam & Daan de Coninck)

For many young people, artificial intelligence (AI) is a natural part of their daily lives. They use it for school, leisure, and communication; think of ChatGPT and social media. The influence of AI is increasing rapidly, while the voice of young people is often barely heard in the societal and ethical debate. How do you engage in a conversation about this in a way that resonates with their lived experience?

Within a pilot project by Bredata (Municipality of Breda), Kees van Dam (Avans University of Applied Sciences), together with Daan de Coninck and Danielle Ritsema (Surplus Youth Work), investigated this question. In the project *Our Future, Our Technology*, they explored how to engage in a conversation with young people about AI and ethics, and which working methods are effective in doing so.

National: The AI resilience agent helps vulnerable cities (Jeroen Steenbakkers)

Cities are becoming more vulnerable, to flooding, heat stress, power outages and cyberattacks. Policy to manage those risks exists, but is scattered across documents, maps and systems that rarely communicate with each other. The AI Resilience Agent changes that. It understands spatial questions about resilience, combines policy documents with geodata and maps, and helps policymakers quickly assess risks and formulate targeted measures. Not as a replacement for professional expertise, but as an analytical conversation partner that asks the right questions and draws the right connections.
